If pain or injury keeps coming back, the answer is often in how you move — not just where it hurts.
What this is
Anatomy in Motion (AiM) is a method developed by Gary Ward for reading how the body actually moves — particularly how your foot meets the ground and how that travels up through the whole body as you walk. Alongside it, natural-movement work helps restore the basic capacities — squatting, balancing, moving through full range — that modern life tends to erode. Together they treat movement as a whole system rather than a collection of separate parts.
How it differs
- Looks at the whole moving body, not just the isolated painful part.
- Centres on the foot and the gait cycle — where the body meets the ground — as the root of many compensations.
- Aims to restore the movement your body is missing, rather than stretching or strengthening in isolation.
- Works well in person or over Zoom, since much of it is guided movement you do yourself.
What this can help with
People often come for:
- Recurring or unexplained pain.
- Injuries that keep returning despite treatment.
- Restricted or painful movement, and poor balance.
- Getting back to activity after an injury, or feeling “stuck” in their body.
What to expect
We start by assessing how you stand and move — your feet, your gait, your ranges of motion — to find where the pattern has broken down. From there you’re given specific movements to restore what’s missing, and you’ll leave with things to practise between sessions. Because the work is movement you perform yourself with guidance, Zoom sessions work well wherever you are.
