An acupuncture lineage that often works far from where it hurts — and frequently helps when other approaches haven’t.

The approach

What this is

Master Tung’s acupuncture is a distinct family lineage, kept within the Tung family for generations before being taught more widely. It uses a relatively small number of effective points, located mainly on the limbs, hands and ears rather than at the site of the complaint. Needles are usually placed away from the painful area, and gentle movement of the affected part during treatment is often part of the method.

How it differs

A distinct method

  • Works distally — points on the arms and legs, not the trunk or the painful site itself.
  • Uses fewer needles than many styles, chosen for their effect rather than by fixed formula.
  • Can treat areas that are too painful, inflamed or awkward to needle directly.
  • Practised here by one of only three practitioners in Ireland registered in this lineage.
What it helps

What this can help with

People most often come for:

  • Musculoskeletal pain — back, neck, shoulder, knee.
  • Pain that hasn’t settled with other treatment.
  • Long-standing organ-system and internal complaints.
  • Tension and stress-related patterns held in the body.
Your visit

What to expect

A first session begins with a full case history and assessment. Needling is usually on the limbs, and you’ll often be asked to move the affected area gently while the needles are in place. Sessions last about an hour. Most people notice change over a short course of treatment rather than from a single visit.

Common questions

How is it different from standard acupuncture?
It’s a distinct lineage, the Tung family system, using a small set of highly specific points, often on the arms and legs rather than at the site of the problem. Many people notice a change within the session.
Will it hurt?
The needles are very fine. You may feel a brief sensation, then a dull warmth or heaviness around the point — most people find it relaxing.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends. Recent complaints can settle in a few; longer-standing ones usually need a short course. We review as we go rather than fixing a plan up front.
What’s it used for?
Most often pain and musculoskeletal complaints, and as part of a wider approach to chronic or functional issues. Complex cases are frequently combined with herbs and movement work.
Fees & cancellation
Each service’s fee is listed on its own page, beside the booking calendar. We ask for a minimum of 24 hours’ notice to change or cancel an appointment; without it, a cancellation or missed-appointment fee may apply.
