Master Tung’s Acupuncture

Tung’s Orthodox Acupuncture was based on generations of Tung’s family teaching and was further developed by the work of renowned Chinese (山東省籍) acupuncturist, Master Tung (董景昌大師 1915 – 1975). There are at least 500 Tung’s unique acupuncture points all based upon anatomical and topographical concepts. Most of these Tung’s acupuncture points are totally different from ordinary Chinese points, and these Tung’s points are distributing more on the extremities rather than the torso area. In fact Tung’s acupuncture enjoys enormous respect in the Chinese acupuncture field because of its simplicity and effective treatment in all the main areas of acupuncture. Recent studies revealed some of the Tung’s points bear the resembling of ancient Indian and Tibetan acupuncture points, especially upon those Tibetan micro-puncture points. Due to the effectiveness of the Tung’s acupuncture, most practitioners believe that other ordinary kinds of Chinese acupuncture are not as effective as Tung’s.

As Acupuncture has been recognised by the World Health organisation for many decades as an effective treatment for a wide variety minor and major health issues, Acupuncture is familiar medical treatment for many people. It is used to avoid over reliance on medications for treatment and to resolve all types of injuries/common illnesses that avoids the undesirable side effects of many other treatments by working with the body.

It is most frequently used in the West to treat common complaints like joint pain, whiplash, nerve pain, colds/’flus, menstrual irregularities, assisting fertility, postpartum recovery, peri-menopausal issues  etc. While these are the most commonly typically encountered issues I treat people with  Tung’s Acupuncture in fact the list is much longer and it was used traditionally as a full medical system to treat all illness’s and injuries

Tung’s Orthodox Acupuncture was based on generations of Tung’s family teaching and was further developed by the work of renowned Chinese acupuncturist, Master Tung (1915 – 1975). During his long and distinguished career, Master was much sought for Tung’s Acupuncture’s ability to treat many serious conditions that were far beyond the capabilities of other forms of Acupuncture including head’s of state and members of royal families.

There are a few things that makes Tung’s Acupuncture stand out and unique in comparison to Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture.

  • Highly Effect and Fast Acting – Its reputation for treating pain, musculoskeletal pain, joint issues and serious conditions is well known  and is seen as a superior form of acupuncture for these types of conditions.
  • Safer – The Acupuncture points in Master Tung’s system are not located on the trunk of the body so avoid the risk of injury associated with applying needles to this area that exist with other lesser form of Acupuncture
  • Few Needles – Typically in Tung’s Acupuncture, 8 or less needles are used. This makes the treatment less painful and more appropriate for those patients that are nervous about needles. Other forms of Acupuncture like TCM acupuncture commonly use up to 50 needles!
  • Distal points only – Tung’s points are used away from the injured or diseased area. If you have an injured knee, to me the last thing the injured knee needs is a needle stuck into the injured area. To me this is simply common sense but it fundamentally different from other forms of needling including TCM and dry needling whose idea seems to be that the injured area needs more trauma.
  • Faster, longer lasting results – With Tung’s Acupuncture, results are usually noticeable after the first treatment. Other forms of Acupuncture often take many session for any change to be noticeable.

Typically a session of Tung’s Orthodox Acupuncture  consists of an initial consultation fully evaluating  the health issue/injury being presented. A full history of health and lifestyle including related symptoms in the past or presently being suffered as well as the current problem. I will form a plan to treat the symptoms and root cause of the problem and select the points to be used talking the patient through the needling process.
